OUR STORY
Our first big plunge into the business world, Forest Glen Kit Homes, was born in 1990. My background was teaching and Adrian was an experienced builder. He’d renovated terraces and homes in Sydney, built a doctor’s surgery for his Dad, constructed many Pizza Huts and Chinese restaurants and worked as a foreman for a building company on the Sunshine Coast.

SO WHY KIT HOMES?
Back in 1990 we had a very young family, but despite the demands on our time, Adrian had always wanted to run his own business and the opportunity arose to buy into a factory which built frames and trusses. With financial assistance from family, we began supplying frames and trusses to local builders.
As builders, we’d recognised that there was a real need for quality homes that families could afford. The dream for most couples is to provide a home for their family to grow up in, however – for many – the cost of a home makes this dream just that….merely a dream.

A SPARK OF GENIUS STRUCK
We realised that kit homes were the solution to this gap in the market – but they had to be quality homes, and nothing like those at the time. Adrian hired Hilton, a salesman who would sell quality kit homes to local families in our area. Hilton had bigger ideas and soon began selling homes throughout Queensland and interstate. Many families took advantage of the opportunity of buying a quality kit home and organising the construction themselves, some with a little help from friends, relatives or a building professional and saving money. We knew we were helping these people and at the same time, expanding our business. The need arose for a business name which reflected our new direction, and being incredibly creative, we became Forest Glen Kit Homes….because our factory was at Forest Glen. A funny aside, this was around the time of the movie Forrest Gump, and we often had people calling to speak to Mr Forest Glen, assuming the business was named after the manager!

TAKING IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL
When selling kit homes, we were frequently asked if we could also provide a building service. Adrian began sourcing quality builders through his contacts in the Master Builders Association and we progressed from being a supplier to a building company. Adrian had always loved older style homes and many of our kit home plans were traditional Queenslander-style homes. Hence we decided to change our name to Classic Queenslanders.

OUR REPUTATION GOES GLOBAL
We moved from Forest Glen to an office in Buderim in 2001. We established an enviable reputation for being a quality builder of traditional style timber homes. We supplied kit homes worldwide and assisted many clients by sending builders to construct their kits.
There is a beautiful Queenslander, the Rose Gum, sitting proudly atop a mountain in Belize in Central America, another on the slopes overlooking Avarua Harbour on Rarotonga, Cook Islands, and you may also spy our homes in Noumea, Norfolk Island and New Zealand.
Our kits have been built in Darwin, Mataranka, Wolf Crater WA, Mornington Peninsula, Mildura, Stanthorpe, Bingara NSW, Cooktown, Cairns, Cowell SA, Katherine NT – all over Australia and throughout the world.

GOING BACK TO BASICS
We’re very proud of our building reputation, the clients we’ve helped and the large staff we supported. However, it became obvious that we were no longer supporting our original ideal. To help people, we needed to reduce our overheads and go back to basics. We took advantage of a time when staff were leaving to pursue new directions; one was becoming a mum, one was moving overseas, and another
pursuing academic qualifications. We decided to re-focus and change our direction.
We still wanted to supply a quality product at an affordable price, to people who would organise construction of their own kit home. So in 2014 we began making plans to go ‘full circle’ – focussing fully on designing & supplying quality kit homes.

Adrian and I are now ‘the staff’, our office operates from our home and is mobile so we can do site visits for local clients, and we are back designing & supplying industry-leading kit homes!
